This might sound like a stupid and obvious thing to say, but christ Grand Theft Auto 4 is violent! All the others have been quite cartoon like, but this one is much more realistic and all the more disturbing for it. I just had a car chase with some bloke I was supposed to whack. I riddled his car with bullets, and as his car skidded to a halt it caught fire. He got out of the car thrashing about with his clothes on fire, until his car exploded and he was hurled into the air, landing in a crumpled smoking heap metres away. Later I lost control of my car and had a head on collision with another vehicle. My car was knackered after and wouldn't start again, so I got out expecting to see the other driver going 'what the hell are you doing!' like in the other games. Instead she was slumped dead over the steering wheel with blood all over the windscreen, while the horn droned.
What is interesting though is that this time round there is a much more moralistic tone to the story. It's not just tongue-in-cheek violence like in the other games. Your character arrives in Liberty City just aiming to make his way in the world, but gets sucked into a world of violence that steadily escalates as the game goes on. It forces you to make decisions about how you are going to conduct yourself in the game, and makes you live with those consequences.
So far is living up to the hype. |

it's even better when you shoot an innocent car driver stuck at the traffic lights in the head through the windshield where not only do you get the blood splat on the windshield and the slunken head sounding the horn, but their foot stamps down on the accelerator and they drive into a lampost. most entertaining!

I played it for about an hour this morning and by the time I turned it off I felt disgusted with myself. I plugged a blonde student three times in the stomach and watched her crawl off and slump against the wall. She was still breathing and rolling her head around so I carried on pumping bullets into her until the police arrived. Cue and insane car chase with mounting casualties and a grisly end for me smashing head first through the windscreen and plummeting into the river!
No wonder kids these days are so fucked.
